Photography analysis
Context
Andy Small is a photographic Artist who creates photographs that are based on nature, landscape and macro flower. He is a professional Fine Art photographer and RHS course tutor .He has found success by being one of the UK's most original, artistic and influential flower photographers.
“The natural world is my lifelong passion and provides inspiration for my drawing, painting and photography. The macro lens is like a window that transports me into another world. In this place I observe details, shapes and patterns that are not usually seen even though most of the subjects are right under our noses. “I am fascinated by the intricate structure and design found in nature and my photography celebrates this diverse but orderly world that sometimes goes unnoticed.” Andy Small

This is an image of a pepper that has been captured using a macro lens. The image has been taken on a digital camera and to me it looks abstract due to the colours used I feel the colour of the background has been exaggerated to give a more striking look to the final photograph.
I feel that the image does not represent a message.
I feel that the image does not represent a message.
Composition
In this image the photograph has captured the inside of the pepper and has placed the pepper in the middle of the image. A small depth of field has been used as the background is out of focus.
I feel as though the photographer has taken the image from a birds eye view as he has captured the top of the pepper clearly . I think the pepper may have been placed on a table lying flat with the inside looking up. I think auto white balance has been used and he has used a studio set up to take the images as there are no other objects in the background.

Connection
I like this work because it looks abstract and the colour is nice as well .I will begin my project by taking a photoshoot of different kinds of fruits and vegetables. I will try take an image in the same style as Andy Small. I will consider colour and how I can use contrast colours against the fruit. This will make the image more interesting to look at.
Comment
I have chosen this image as the colours used are contrasting and I like the use of different shades of blue and purple in the background. The use of colour allows the yellow pepper to standout and look 3D and you can see the detail of the inside of the pepper clearly. This image has influenced me and makes me want to create work like this.
Man-made textures
Lucy Shires
Context
Lucy Shires is a British photographic artist specializing in capturing texture and urban abstractions. After leaving the industrial North West, she travelled across Europe, documenting urban entropy in hidden, abandoned places across the continent.
On her website she describes texture as 'The feel, appearance, or consistency of a surface or a substance. Textures themselves are patterns, works of art, intentional or otherwise, they surround us.'

This is an image of a wall where the paint is pealing away and is cracked. The image looks as though there were two layers of paint but over time it has cracked and has come away from the main wall. Lucy takes pictures in abandoned buildings, I think this shows that the place in which the picture has been taking is abandoned as this would not happen in house where someone lives as they would fix this problem.
The image to me is abstract as it has one side that is smooth and the other sides has cracked in to shapes where patterns can be seen. This image has not been exaggerated and has not been edited on photoshop it has been captured in the way natural. The theme of this photograph is texture I feel that Lucy is trying to show people that a wall can be just a wall to some however it is art to others.

Composition
When I look at this photograph my eye is drawn to the grey area because it is darker that the off white colour in the image it is also smooth compared to the cracked paint in the picture. This area is on the right side of the image and takes up less than half the image. The image has a foreground that smooth a midground that cracked and textured then a background that is darker colour and appears smooth in texture.
I think this has been taken using a medium depth of field as the left hand side of the image is out of focus. I feel as though there is a leading line where the first layer of paint in the foreground starts to peal away.

Connection
Lucy's work connects to my project as she aims to capture texture in her work. This is what I need to do when taking images of man made items such as grids, walls, fences metals. I will look in place where people usually walk past and I will try to capture a good image of texture that look nice.
Comment
I have chosen Lucy's work as I like the way in which she use depth of field and the angles she uses when capturing her images. I also feel as though she shows texture in a different way. I will use her work when taking photographs of man made objects.
